NTNU Department of Sport and Kinesiology students Yang Chang-Ying (Class of 116) and Kuo Yen-Yu (Class of 115) teamed up with Chen Hsin-Ya from the University of Taipei to represent Taiwan at the 2025 FISU World University Games in Germany. In the recognized poomsae event, they performed with precision and powerful presence, tying with South Korea for the top score of 8.966.

👊 Training, mental prep, injury prevention, & academic balance = the winning formula.
Coach Huang Pei-Yun credited the win to collective efforts, especially the support from NTNU Athletic Dept. Director Lee Chia-Jung, who secured funding for improved safety equipment in training. She praised the athletes’ consistent dedication, which laid the foundation for their success. National Sports Training Center, the Sports Science Center, the Sports Administration, and CTUSF (College Sports Federation) also played vital roles in supporting the athletes’ journey to gold.

Yang acknowledged this support, saying it helped her compete at her best and adapt quickly to the environment. She concluded: “A gold medal is not the end—it’s the beginning.” These three athletes have set a new standard for poomsae in Taiwan, combining sweat, science, and spirit to shine on the world stage.

She also emphasized that the freestyle poomsae performance was key to their victory, made possible by Coach Huang and NTNU alumnus Lin Yu-Han’s thoughtful choreography. Coach Huang noted that elite performance is built on daily hard work—morning drills, strength training, and sacrificing holidays. NTNU athletes cultivate essential habits like discipline, punctual training, physical readiness, and stress resilience. Kuo expressed gratitude for the team’s chemistry and coach’s encouragement, emphasizing how vital that bond was in managing the pressure of international competition.
