3 Gold 7 Silver 1 Bronze by NTNU Athletes in 2019 Universiade

The 13-day Summer Universiade Napoli 2019 ended on July 14th. Athletics from NTNU have made an impressive performance, earning 3 gold, 7 silver and 1 bronze for Taiwan, accounting for 1/3 of medals. President Wu, who lead the team to Italy, recognized the hard work of the athletes and their top performance.
Gymnast Tang Chia Hung once again set his record with 14.700 points and became the first Taiwanese athlete winning a gold in world universiade. He is thankful of his coach, Yu Chin Ying and Wang Shih Hang. He is more confident in the world championship in October, which is an important step towards the Olympics.
Tang Chia Hung, Vincent Hsu and Lee Chih Kai clinched a silver medal in the men’s team gymnastics with a totla score of 167.400, which was also a record breaking moment.
Su Chia En, a student of Department of Athlete Performance, scores 6.99 points in poomsae and won a silver medal. The women’s team poomsae composed of Su Chia En, Chen Yi Hsuan and Lee Chieh Yu also grabbed a silver with an average score of 6.930.
PhD student Chen Po Kai and teammate Lee Cheng Kang and Huang Sheng Peng finished with a score of 7.84 in compulsory poomsae and 7.120 in freestyle poomsae. The team also came back with a silver.
Lin Ying Shin received a bronze medal in the women’s 10 metre air rifle with a score of 225.2. This is the first bronze medal of Taiwan in 2019 Universiade. The women’s 10 meter air pistol team, consisting of Lin, Tsai Yi Ying and Chen Yun Yun took silver.
The Chinese Taipei recurve men’s team, composed of Wei Chun Heng and Tang Chih Chun, ranked second only to Russia and won silver. The mixed team of Wei Chun Heng and Peng Chia Mao won a gold medal, defeated Japan by 39 to 38.
Kuo Kuan Ting and Yu Ai Wen have won the 10 meter mixed air pistol gold medal at the 2019 Summer Universiade against the Koreans with 16 to 10. The athletes will work harder with a goal of 2020 Olympics.
