Athletes Got 1 Gold and 1 Silver in Taekwondo Poomsae 2017 Universiade

On the second day of games, NTNU athletes continues to win glory for the country. Su Chia En from the Dept. of Athlete Performance grabbed the first gold medal in mixed pair poomsae with her partner Lee Cheng Gang. In the men’s team category, Chang Wei Chieh, Hsieh Ming Yang and Huang Chia Jung garnered a silver medal with a final score of 7.587. The gold medal was won by Li Cheng Gang and Su Chia En in the mixed pair category, with a final score of 7.853.
The Taekwondo Poomsae team made their debut at 2015 Gwangju Universiade. They have conquered in Asian Championships and World Championships in 2016, so they are expected highly in this Universiade. A day ago, two athletes got medals in Taekwondo so the team was uplifted.
The gold medal of mixed pair poomsae was won by Lee Cheng Gang and Su Chia En. Lee’s partner was his girlfriend Liao Wen Hsuan, who broke her leg in the open race in Korea in July. Su Chia En became his partner and they only practiced for a month.
Chen Ching, the former representative, broke his leg a weak ago and has to walk on crutches. He came to cheer for the contestants. Huang Chia Jung substitute for his position in short notice and was happy for the result. Cheng said that there’s not enough time for practice because of limited time. The moves were changed and simplified. Chang give the credit for to his teammates. They encouraged each other, protect each other all along the way.
